Yeah I could never mutilate an animal. It's just so wrong.

Like, I ain't gonna fight for animal rights or anything, that's just me.

Like chances are there's gonna be a mass extinction event within a century so whatever.

But if we can't trust in the words of a talking tiger woman then, In who can we put our trust?

October 12th, 2015, 11:42 pm

spaying and neutering also helps in behavior, as when males mature they have a tendency to spray their territory if left intact
and females when they go into heat will let out bloodcurdling yowls...that WILL wake you up in the dead of night
so yes, to curb feral cat/dog populations, always spay and neuter your pets

Veterinary here

well i am a veterinary and i now that part its easy and clean but well not to funny for the pet , and it can be very paintfull to go to the vet and came back with your balls off ......in a way i understand the cat , dear who try to do the same thing i do all this days ( now i feel kind of a mosnter for that )

October 13th, 2015, 1:21 am

Right.

That was some of the best advice Bob Barker ever gave. Right after "Don't have penis sword fights with weirdos you meet on the subway!"

October 13th, 2015, 3:07 am

Vas Deferens

I could not do it for my boy cat. As a man, I can not and will not cut off another creatures balls! Instead they gave my cat a vasectomy! It was more expensive but well worth it. Now he spends hours a day... "cleaning himself".
My sister cut off her oldest cat's balls. She felt bad for him though. So she paid a little bit extra, and the vet gave him prosthetic balls so he would have something to lick down there.

I like Al's gulp in the last panel. I suspect he had one of his male cats neutered in the past.

I just noticed the disclaimer on the bottom of the strips. Thanks Kenno, I feel better about having given Phoenix the cheesebeagle the snip.

Gossiping of thou neighbors

Well making enemies can get real bad.

Hopefully Al will ask them nicely to turn it down.

@Yargan:
@Yargan:
Yeah, well, both that cat & Fel are talking about the human species here; We've got plenty of examples of humans (both male & female) who do pretty much the same thing TO THEMSELVES! Willingly & voluntarily!

October 13th, 2015, 12:46 pm

@Sherbert T Cat:
This comic reminds me of a one-panel cartoon I saw a long time ago; It shows a dog with a depressed-looking expression talking to another dog - The caption underneath read, "My Master loves me. He'd do anything for me. He had my balls cut off."

It made me think quite a bit...

October 13th, 2015, 1:32 pm

Always remember...

...That the more of those cats there are on the suburban scene, the more local wildlife that ends up getting endangered status. Keep the population in check, Vasectomy is the way to go for the humane pet owner.

Options

Yeah, I've always felt bad about the neutering of animals... not because letting them reproduce, or keeping them locked up to prevent it, are an option; that is neither kind nor responsible.

But just consider how much the sexual hormones are a part of human identity-building. I mean, being in heat & menstruating are hard on a system, and neutering may prolong life, but would you seriously imagine having your daughter's ovaries removed (and eggs frozen) for, supposedly, "her own good"?

If that sounds as monstrous to you as it does to me, consider vasectomy and tubal ligation as a kinder (though more costly) alternative.

And for the yowling or spraying, learn to raise your pet like the 2 to 4 year old kid their intelligence will allow them to become. They can learn to live socially, if you invest time and attention... I've proved it. Yes, even cats.

(Don't try 2 males in a household, though, unless they are litter-mates. Even castrated. One always gets beaten when you aren't looking, and cat depression is not a pretty thing. Think matriarchy, if you want to adopt a clowder of cats.)

Oops, for some reason I can only make this a reply... sorry, Cinnamon!

Where are my testicles Summer?

Bob Barker vs FEL!

I can't stop thinking of this;

There are several options when neutering a cat. You can opt for just snipping the vas deferens (a vasectomy) or removal of the testicles (castration).

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutering for a lot of options.

Alpha's pack

I just had a horrible thought. Alpha will soon be roaming the mean streets of Stripe City where there are probably a fair amount of stray dogs. She will have a lot of time on her hands. How long before she establishes communication with the local strays and creates a pack of her own?

Given the strong feelings she has regarding humanity in general, and Deniz in particular, this could get scary. Dogs are pack animals and can be easily trained to obey. If she caught Mugger and Deniz outside, Alpha could use he pack to neuralize Mugger and be able to take care of Deniz personally. Hopefully it won't come to this

October 14th, 2015, 12:12 pm

@Esclachier: I see what you did there.

October 14th, 2015, 6:10 pm

@Kenno Arkkan: Did you know a person can't buy a canvas print of "The face of a harsh life" because the size box doesn't populate?

October 14th, 2015, 7:56 pm

With juicy gossip comes great responsibility.

October 18th, 2015, 2:48 am

cat be like

look at my ass
LOOK AT IT!!!

October 19th, 2015, 2:16 am

@foducool: "Look at it! Look at my anus!" was a song that was actually cut from the musical "Cats", because the ghost of Gilbert and Sullivan threatened to sue Andrew Lloyd Webber, because that song was already in their play, The Mikado!"

October 19th, 2015, 11:38 am

@m2iCodeJockey: D: what does "doesn't populate" mean??

October 19th, 2015, 12:05 pm

@Kenno Arkkan: There is a listbox named "Size" but, there are no items in the list.

Someone probably has not yet added the available sizes to a database or, if the data exists, the text data might have incompatible characters.

October 19th, 2015, 12:45 pm

@Crazy Old Cat Guy: most vets recommend waiting to neuter your pets instill they are either fully grown or nearly fully grown as to make sure they mature properly depending on size of the breed

October 19th, 2015, 6:47 pm

Swapping

Is it me, or do I want to see a gender swap between Fel and Al. Would be interesting to see.

(Yes, yes. I know the male anthros went bat shit crazy, and pretty wild. But cant hate a guy for wishing.)

October 19th, 2015, 7:39 pm

@Kenno Arkkan: This may help a little more

On the page:
https://society6.com/product/the-face-of-a-harsh-life_stretched-canvas

View source, starting from around line 717:

<label>Size</label>
<div class="styled-select">
<select id="attr_599016size" name="attr_599016size" class="required">

</select>
</div>
<label class="error" generated="true" for="attr_599016size"></label>

In the space between <select> and </select> there are supposed to be <option> objects, each representing the dimensions of a canvas.

@CinnamonSalve:

I would also recommend people not allow their animals to roam without proper supervision. Cats are an invasive species to many countries, like here in the USA, and dogs have evolved beyond the mindset of their wildlife ancestors. Most dogs and cats who roam without supervision just randomly kill animals without the need to kill them for nourishment most of the time.

It's a huge problem here in Minnesota with roaming dogs chasing down deer to the point of exhaustion just to have them die and then leave them because they didn't need to eat. And these are mostly domesticated, house pets doing the unnecessary murdering. Feral dog packs shouldn't even be a thing, either, because of the overpopulation.

And don't even get me started on cats. Our neighbors have cats that they allow to freely roam and the apartment complex is usually decorated with carcasses of birds, mice, rabbits, et cetera. It's aggravating.

People need to learn to walk their dogs and cats (my cats walk on leads), use kennel runs, pet-proof yards, et cetera.

Keep the population down and keep your pets properly leashed! The wildlife will THANK us all.

Just a thing

Balloon layout in 3rd panel is a little messy, makes it hard to follow their conversation.

October 26th, 2015, 2:14 am

Amused

I find it sort of amusing how several people are talking about how they could never cut the balls off another animal.

As a transexual I don't see much problem with it considering I'd happily have it done to myself.
